Monster Monday:Chupacabra 6/11/12

(art not done by me)

Literal name translation :"goat sucker"
A legendary criptid rumored to be in parts of the Americas,Puerto Rico, and mexico, and the united states.
Physical descriptions vary.Although it is usually based around a dog like hairless creature.
The first reported attacks were in march of 1995 in Puerto Rico where 8 sheep were found dead with puncture wounds to the chest. Months later it was reported seen in a town where 150 animals were killed. All animals were reportedly bled dry.
Appearance according to wiki:

"The most common description of chupacabras is a reptile-like being, appearing to have leathery or scaly greenish-gray skin and sharp spines or quills running down its back.its form stands approximately 3 to 4 feet (1 to 1.2 m) high, and stands and hops in a similar fashion to a kangaroo. In at least one sighting, the creature was reported to hop 20 feet (6 m). This variety is said to have a dog or panther-like nose and face, a forked tongue, and large fangs. It is said to hiss and screech when alarmed, as well as leave behind a sulfuric stench. When it screeches, some reports assert that the chupacabras' eyes glow an unusual red which gives the witnesses nausea.

Another description of chupacabras, although not as common, describes a strange breed of wild dog. This form is mostly hairless and has a pronounced spinal ridge, unusually pronounced eye sockets, fangs, and claws. It is claimed that this breed might be an example of a dog-like reptile. Unlike conventional predators, the chupacabra is said to drain all of the animal's blood (and sometimes organs) usually through three holes in the shape of an upside-down triangle or through one or two holes."

Evidence suggests the chupacabra is nothing more than a dog with mange.

Monster Monday:Unicorns

(picture is not mine)

The unicorn is most commonly known as a horse like creature with a horn. Many pictures depict this animal with wing's. Although that is a common misconception. A "unicorn" with wings is a Pegasus.
The unicorn is mentioned in several places in the Bible. The unicorn was represented in the context of virtue and purity; it could detect virginity and would lay its head in the lap of a virgin and sleep. If it discerned a pretender, it would tear her apart with its horn. Many Christians believed the unicorn was a symbol that honored the Virgin Mary.
In the encyclopedias its horn was said to have the power to render poisoned water potable and to heal sickness. Until the 19th century, belief in unicorns was widespread among historians, alchemists, writers, poets, naturalists, physicians, and theologians
According to Chinese mythology, the fact that the unicorn has not been seen in many centuries is a bad omen, but it will reappear when goodness reigns once again.

I thought i'd start off our "Monster Mondays" with a familiar creature.

Update: 6/2/12

So i now have squared away the weekly things ill be doing..
We have "Monster Mondays" Where i will be teaching you about a new creature all posts will obviously be on Mondays.
We also have our Haunted location of the week. which will not have a specific day of the week. it will be whenever i get around to it. But there will be one a week.

I will also obviously post stories and things regularly. i just wanted everyone to know that there are set things that will appear each week. and don't worry. i write a few of them in advanced and have them scheduled for weeks in advanced just in case i forget :)

Haunted Location Of The Week: St. Augustine light house

I thought i would start off my "haunted locations of the week" with a place i have been too, here in my home state Florida!

"The St. Augustine Light is an active lighthouse on the north end of Anastasia Island, within the current city limits of St. Augustine, Florida. The tower, built in 1874, is owned by the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum, Inc. (SAL&M), a not-for-profit maritime museum and private aid-to-navigation. Open to the public, admissions support continued preservation of the Lighthouse and fund programs in maritime archaeology and education."-Taken from
St. Augustine Light Wiki page

In the fifth grade i went to St. Augustine Florida. We explored many haunts including this light house.
According to the wiki page:

"St. Augustine was the site of the first lighthouse established in Florida by the new, territorial, American Government in 1824. According to some archival records and maps, this "official" American lighthouse was placed on the site of an earlier watchtower built by the Spanish as early as the late 16th century"

So it began. We were allowed to go to the top of the tower. Now i have a fear of heights but iv never felt sick when up high. As we got to the middle of the tower i got a strange sick feeling, like i wanted to vomit. I wasn't the only one either. a few other people got sick. We stayed in the middle of the tower while everyone else climbed to the top.
The tour guid told us stories of ghosts that haunt the tower. although it being many years ago i do not recall them.
The wiki page has reported hauntings:

"the lighthouse and surrounding buildings have a long history of supposed paranormal activity. Allegedly, visitors and workers have seen moving shadows, heard voices and unexplained sounds, and seen the figures of two little girls standing on the lighthouse catwalk (who purportedly were daughters of Hezekiah Pittee, Superintendent of Lighthouse Construction, during the 1870s; the girls drowned in an accident during the building of the tower). Other reports are of a woman seen on the lighthouse stairway or walking in the yard outside the buildings, and the figure of a man who roams the basement. The male figure is said possibly to be that of Civil War hero and former lighthouse keeper William A. Harn"

Now that i think of it i do recall the story of the former keeper. They had said you could hear him with a metal bucket going up the stairs to grease the light. or something along those lines.

I do recommend stopping by St. Augustine Florida if you ever have a chance. Go on the graveyard tour. go to the "castles" and stuff. It is an incredibly active place!

The ghost

Well this just happened.
As i was browsing the internet i realized i needed to use the bathroom. although i had been hearing my "room mate" the ghost wandering my house fr the past 2 hours i decided to go ahead and go anyways. i got up and waited for Mr. creepy to quiet down and i opened my door. Instant feeling of being watched. Then i saw him. Mr. creepy himself. in the hallway towards my living room.i instantly kept walking quickly and shut the bathroom door. did my business and i heard this thing making a shit ton of noise before i heard my dog come padding through the kitchen into the office and then to the door way of the hallway containing my room, brothers room, and bathroom. I proceeded to leave the bathroom and practically ran to my room getting that horrific feeling again. i refuse to leave for the rest of the night. it was abnormally darker in the office this time. usually i can see everything and i can usually see my dog (who is snow white) especially because i left my door wide open with my bright light on but it was like a thick fog.

And i do know for a fact it was Mr. creepy walking around because my dog stays in my parents room on the other side of the house and when i left my room to go potty my dog was not in the area the sounds came from.

I'm still hearing noises.

There's a ghost in my house

Let me just start off by explaining,i can see the paranormal. and this creeps me out.
So recently my mom and myself moved back into the house my step dad and her bought.
I had problems in the past with creepy feelings at night and at one point i was face to face with my ghostly room mate. but now its just getting harder and harder to ignore.
At night i tend to get up and get drinks and pee and do what normal people do. except when i do any of these things i get watched or harassed by this damn ghost. it walks around my house at night when everyone is asleep and i can hear it.
ill post updates when more things happen

Paranormal past

So I'll begin with a bit of knowledge on myself. I have been given a few "gifts". Although they are usually more like curses. I'll explain a bit about this one. I have a sort of psychic "sight" for things past, present, and future. For example they can be dreams or even split seconds of visions while performing every day tasks. Going down the highway I can tell you who will be in a car crash and how many will die.
On to my story. When I was a child I lived in a rental home,a very grand beautiful one. I had never seen our landlord, ever. Eventually times got better and so did money and we bought our own house and that's when the dreams started. I remember standing in the living room area of the rental home but I was almost movie like, the way I saw the man. He had sandy brown hair. He was short but built for a guy his size. No facial hair, no glasses or anything else really. I was watching this man weep intensely holding something in his hand. Later in the dream I found it to be a pistol. Now in this living room there were can lights in the ceiling close to a wall where the couch, and the man, sat. In this dream the man continued to cry profusely. He then took the pistol an put it in his mouth and blew his brains all over the wall and ceiling, and can lights. And then I would wake up.
Years went by and eventually I gave up on figuring out what that dream ment. Until one day my mom told me our old landlord had committed suicide. A cold shiver tickle it's way down my spine and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I began describing him perfectly even though I never saw him in my life. My mother asked how I knew what he looked like and I told her my reoccurring dream.
It was without a doubt him. And there wasn't a thing I could have done.
Goes to show how this can be a curse.

Wendigo

The Wendigo, Also known as Windigo, Weendigo, Windago, Waindigo, Windiga, Witiko, Wihtikow, and numerous other variants. Is personally my favorite "monster". Appearing in the mythology of the Algonquian people. It is a malevolent cannibalistic spirit into which humans could transform, or which could posses humans. Those who indulged in cannibalism were at particular risk.Wendigo's were associated with winter, the north, coldness, starvation, and famine. They were embodiment's of greed, gluttony, and excess.
Basil Johnston, an Ojibwe teacher and scholar from Ontario, gives one description of how Wendigos were viewed:
"The Weendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tautly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Weendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody [....] Unclean and suffering from suppurations of the flesh, the Weendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption."

Wendigos were said to be giants, many times larger than human beings.Whenever a Wendigo ate another person, it would grow in proportion to the meal it had just eaten, so that it could never be full.
It has been said That when a person resorts to cannibalism they could turn into a Wendigo or become posessed by a Wendigo, often in a dream. Once turned,a person becomes obsessed with eating human flesh.

Introduction

Well seeing as this is my first post, i figure i should make it a bit of an introduction to myself and what i will be posting.

My name is Cheyenne. I am quite a strange individual.I enjoy dark, occult, horror, weird, paranormal, strange, and all around creepy things. I'm weird looking. I dress in all black and i wear more eyeliner than i should, but nothings ever stopped me before.

Down to business. What i want to "do" with this blog is share stories, fairy tales, paranormal experiences, ghost stories, mythology, and maybe a bit more about myself here and there. Let me explain a bit on why i intend on sharing these types of things. I feel that fairy tales and ghost stories are dwindling and becoming less and less in society.I for one enjoy these things and would hate to see them become a part of the past. Not only will i share my own tales and things i find,But i will set up and email for you to send in your stories and encounters which i will post here once i review them.

The email address in which you can send in your stories and encounters is graveyardtales@live.com
